Double garages make downsizing a breeze at Griffith’s over-50s lifestyle community

A longtime country couple have embraced a simpler and more creative way of life at Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill, proving downsizing doesn’t mean compromising treasured belongings, hobbies and space to entertain.

The spacious double garage in their ‘Wilson’ home design has made all the difference for the couple.

Leading over-50s lifestyle community provider Lincoln Place is flipping the script on downsizing, with new home designs like the ‘Wilson’ and ‘Collina’ models at Griffith Hill offering generous living and studio-style flexibility.  

Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill resident Peter Taylor and his wife Lucy, both 83, moved to Griffith Hill six months ago, downsizing from their farming property where they lived for the last 25 years. 

Mr Taylor said the couple were initially daunted by the prospect of downsizing. 

“Our farm was only a few kilometres away, but the upkeep became a bit too much for us,” Mr Taylor said. “We were worried the move would be challenging, having accumulated a lifetime of belongings.”  

“We became sentimentally attached to things, so when the time came to downsize, there were concerns we wouldn’t have space for these items.” 

Mr Taylor said the spacious double garage in their ‘Wilson’ home design made all the difference. 

“The extra storage is brilliant. I’ve also got a bench in there where I can potter around with my hobbies. I’m really into radios and love to paint, so that corner of the garage has become a bit of a studio,” he said.  

“For downsizers like us, the extra space is an opportunity to bring some of your stuff and then decide if you want to keep it. Six months on, we’re slowly going through some boxes, and I don’t think we’d be able to manage without the additional garage space.”  

Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill New Home Advisor Michael Musitano said with double garages, open-plan layouts and light-filled spaces, residents could enjoy modern, lower-maintenance living without giving up the things that matter most.

Mr Musitano said resident feedback had informed elements of the latest design, with two spacious bedrooms, including a master retreat with walk through-robe and ensuite, as well as open-plan living zones and covered alfresco areas to make gatherings easy and enjoyable. 

“Our residents tell us one of the greatest joys of this new chapter is having the time and space to entertain,” he said.  

“Whether it’s Sunday lunch with the family or coffee with friends, the homes are designed so people can open the doors and welcome others in.” 

Over the coming years, Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill will deliver 134 new homes across four stages. The community creates opportunities for people over-50s to downsize into new, high-quality homes under the land lease model. 

Construction on a $7 million investment in recreational spaces and amenities is underway at Griffith Hill, with a 160sqm Wellness Centre that includes a bowls green, gym, outdoor heated pool, pickleball courts, putting green and an expansive community garden set to open soon. Works on a 744sqm clubhouse will commence in the coming months, which will feature lounge areas, dining, entertainment and communal cooking spaces, a BBQ area, a resident lounge, theatre, craft studio and games room.
