With nearly one in three Mudgee residents aged over 55 living alone*, two Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring residents are proving that downsizing solo can be an opportunity for friendship and connection.

Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring is a masterplanned community designed for over-50s, delivering 206 new two and three-bedroom homes alongside resort-style amenities.

Betty Head, 72, sold her mid-north coast home and moved to Sydney to be near family, but eventually put down roots in a two-bedroom home in Mudgee.

“I knew I wanted somewhere quiet,” Betty said. “I’m a country girl at heart, but moving was a big decision,” she said.

The move was daunting for Betty, who would be living alone for the first time at Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring, but she has since found her rhythm in a town she was always fond of.

“My family encouraged me to move to Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring so I’d be in a community around people and feel more secure,” she said.

“I feel relaxed here and have company whenever I need it. The Friday afternoon get-togethers and drinks is a great chance to catch up with everyone, and with trips and outings its lots of fun.”

The community is only minutes from the Mudgee town centre, in the heart of wine country and close to established amenities including Mudgee District Hospital and golf, bowling and tennis clubs.

Betty is far from alone in the Mudgee community.

Vicki Wellsmore, a 73-year-old Mudgee local of four decades, downsized from her family’s farming property after her husband passed, and found a welcoming community of like-minded neighbours.

“The farm was becoming too hard to manage alone, so I moved to a house in town, but that was still too large for just me,” she said. “The style and size of homes at Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring suited me perfectly.”

Vicki said while downsizing solo came with its challenges, living in the community had eased the transition.

“It’s really difficult to downsize on your own, especially when you’ve had a big family home, and you have to let go of possessions, and that takes time,” she said.

“I like to walk my dog around the community, and there’s always someone saying hello or giving a friendly wave. Having that company and seeing familiar faces is lovely.

“I’ve been lucky to have supportive neighbours who’ve been understanding and helpful, and I’m mingling more as I get comfortable, and there’s always activities going on to socialise, so I’ll never be lonely here.”

Amenities at Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring already include a competition-size bowling green, pickleball court, barbecue area, community bus and caravan storage.

The multi-million-dollar Clubhouse will deliver a new swimming pool, gym, private theatre, community kitchen, games room and dining areas, and is expected to open in early 2027.

Forty-nine residents already call the community home and a further 12 homes within the first stage of the masterplan are under construction and on track for completion in early 2027.
