A new approach to life after 50

Today’s downsizers are looking for more than just a new home. As recently featured on 7NEWS, many are seeking a welcoming neighbourhood, an active social life and greater freedom to enjoy their next chapter.

Lincoln Place resident Georgie Brown shared her experience of downsizing from a 25-acre property to a comfortable, low-maintenance home within the pet-friendly community.

“Everybody’s very friendly. It takes you like an hour to walk to the garbage bins because you stop and chat to everybody,” Georgie said.

Georgie was also able to bring her four-legged companion along for the move, with the neighbourhood’s dedicated dog park offering a place for pets to play and neighbours to connect.

Lincoln Place CEO Paul Yeo told 7NEWS that the way Australians approach retirement is evolving.

“People are retiring differently to how they were a generation ago,” Mr Yeo said.

Today’s over-50s are staying active for longer and looking for communities designed to support the way they want to live. Pools, gyms, sports facilities, dog parks and inviting shared spaces provide opportunities to exercise, try new activities and spend time with neighbours.

The report also highlighted the financial freedom that downsizing can offer. Through Lincoln Place’s land lease model, residents own their home and lease the land, with no stamp duty or council rates to pay—helping them unlock more from the sale of their previous home and enjoy the lifestyle ahead.
