Health Corner: Mood Boosting Exercises
In partnership with Wini Health
This month’s Health Corner explores the everyday habits that can help support stronger bones as we age. From regular movement and strength training to good nutrition and safe sunlight exposure, small and consistent choices can make a meaningful difference to bone health, mobility and confidence.
What the experts have to say
Strong bones are built through daily habits, not just genetics – and the good news is that bone health can improve at any age. Three pillars make the biggest difference: exercise, nutrition, and sunlight. Weight-bearing exercise (like walking, stair climbing, dancing, or low impact jogging) stimulates bone growth by putting stress on your skeleton. Pair this with strength training 2-3 times a weeksquats, step-ups, resistance bands, or light weights – to build the muscle that supports and protects your bones. Balance exercises also help prevent falls, a major risk factor for fractures.
Nutrition matters too. Aim for foods rich in calcium (dairy, leafy greens, tofu, almonds) and protein, which supports both muscle and bone. Vitamin D is essential for absorbing calcium, and the easiest source is safe sunlight exposure – a few minutes on arms and legs most days, depending on your skin type and climate.
Small, consistent actions create stronger bones, better mobility, and greater confidence as you age.
