As Australian families come together to celebrate Grandparents Day (October 26), one regional Victorian family is making their time together extra special since moving into their new home at Lincoln Lifestyle Baranduda.

Proud grandparents Rita and Craig Kidd enjoy regular visits from their grandchildren, Casey, 12, and Ruby, 2, at the over-50s land lease community, formerly Baranduda Lifestyle Estate, in the state’s far northeast.

The couple in their late 50s downsized from a five-bedroom family home in Lavington, just over the border in New South Wales, earlier this year, and began a new chapter at the estate developed by leading lifestyle community provider, Lincoln Place.

Rita said the move had given them more freedom to spend time with their grandchildren, with endless opportunities for play and activities within the welcoming community.

“Managing our home was getting a bit too much, and we loved the concept of Lincoln Lifestyle Baranduda, the clever home designs and the shared facilities,” Rita said.

“The kids love coming to visit us at the community, and between playing lawn bowls and table tennis, swimming in the pool, reading in the library, watching movies and having snacks or dinner at the clubhouse, we don’t spend much time in the house.

“We have plenty of space for them at home too, and our spare room is their bedroom, often used for sleepovers.”

“Craig is still working and plans to retire soon, but I’m already retired, so I have a lot more freedom to help out with the grandkids, especially during the week, whether it’s taking them to swimming lessons or looking after them if they’re sick.”

Rita said the community was tight-knit, with like-minded neighbours who welcomed friends and family.

“There’s always plenty to do here, the community is very family-oriented and other residents often invite their grandchildren, nieces or nephews over,” she said.

“We feel safe and there’s always people around looking out for each other. We’re all here having a good time.”

Lincoln Lifestyle Baranduda Community Manager Sophie Lebner said nearly one third of residents have moved into the community from further afield to be closer to family and enjoy the unique lifestyle on offer. Meanwhile, around 75% of residents previously lived within a 30-minute radius of the community, choosing to downsize close to their original homes.

“We’ve got 29 residents at the moment, and that number continues to grow as we become a vibrant community of 200 as future stages progress,” Sophie said.

“Lincoln Lifestyle Baranduda is a particularly active community. We have a vibrant calendar of activities year-round, special interest clubs and a lively social committee that brings everyone together for happy hours and other events at our clubhouse facilities.”
