- What’s New
For Dennis and Donna Callcott, finding the right place for their next chapter wasn’t a decision they rushed.
In fact, their search took them across New South Wales and Queensland as they explored more than 20 over-50s communities, comparing locations, home designs, lifestyles and communities along the way.
Like many people considering their future, they weren’t necessarily looking to move immediately. They simply wanted to understand their options and discover what was possible.
What they found exceeded their expectations.
Keeping an open mind
After years living in Windsor in Sydney’s north-west, Dennis and Donna knew they wanted a lifestyle that was simpler and easier to manage, but they weren’t prepared to compromise on the things that mattered to them.
So they started exploring.
“We looked at more than 20 communities,” Dennis recalls.
“We visited places from Yamba to Cessnock and even as far south as Eden.”
Each visit taught them something new about what they wanted and, just as importantly, what they didn’t.
Discovering something different
Their search eventually brought them to Lincoln Lifestyle Mudgee Spring. The moment they walked through the display home, something felt different.
“We knew it was the one,” Dennis says.
“It felt like downsizing without sacrificing the things we wanted.”
Beyond the home itself, they were drawn to the charm of Mudgee, the natural surroundings and the welcoming atmosphere.
“Mudgee is a beautiful part of the world. The scenery is great, and the people are lovely.”
More than just a home
One of the biggest surprises for Dennis and Donna was how quickly they felt connected to the community. As some of the first residents to move into Mudgee Spring, they found themselves forming friendships almost immediately.
On New Year’s Eve, residents gathered together for a barbecue, sharing stories, laughs and getting to know one another.
“It was a great day getting to know everybody,” Donna says.
Even with only a handful of residents at the time, a sense of community was already taking shape.
“We all checked in on each other,” Dennis laughs. “Whoever went into town became the mailman for everyone else.”
A lifestyle that simply feels right
Today, Dennis and Donna enjoy the benefits of a low-maintenance home that gives them more freedom to focus on the things they enjoy.
Their modern Franklin home offers the comfort and space they were looking for, while being far easier to manage than their previous property.
The move has also given them the flexibility to travel more, with trips already planned to visit family around Australia.
For Donna, seeing her family embrace their new lifestyle has been particularly rewarding.
“When my son visited, he couldn’t believe it. He said, ‘You’re so lucky to wake up every day in such a beautiful place.'”
Their advice to anyone still exploring?
Looking back, Dennis and Donna are glad they took the time to research their options rather than settling for the first community they visited.
The process helped them understand what mattered most and ultimately led them to a lifestyle they genuinely love.
