For Peter and Lucy Taylor, downsizing wasn’t a decision they rushed into. After spending 25 years on their farming property near Griffith (NSW), they knew any move needed to support not only their lifestyle today, but also their future needs.
Like many Australians considering downsizing, they had questions.
- Would they have enough space?
- What would happen to the belongings they had collected over a lifetime?
- Could a smaller home still support their hobbies, family visits and independence?
Taking the time to carefully evaluate their options ultimately gave them the confidence to make a move they can’t believe they ever doubted.
Looking beyond the idea of downsizing
Peter admits the couple were initially hesitant.
Their farm was only a few kilometres away from their new home, but years of maintenance and upkeep were becoming increasingly demanding.
At the same time, they weren’t willing to sacrifice the lifestyle they enjoyed.
“We were worried the move would be challenging, having accumulated a lifetime of belongings,” Peter explains.
Like many future-focused planners, Peter wanted to be sure the move would improve life rather than create new compromises.
Finding a home that could grow with them
One of the key reasons Peter and Lucy chose Lincoln Lifestyle Griffith Hill was the thoughtful design of the homes.
Their two-bedroom Wilson home provided something they hadn’t expected to find when downsizing: flexibility.
The spacious double garage offered valuable storage space while also creating room for Peter’s hobbies.
“The extra storage is brilliant,” he says.
“I’ve got a bench where I can spend time with my hobbies. I enjoy restoring radios and painting, so it has become a little studio for me.”
Having that additional space allowed the couple to move comfortably, knowing they didn’t have to make immediate decisions about every possession they owned.
“The extra room meant we could bring what mattered most and take our time deciding what we wanted to keep.”
Planning for the future
For Peter and Lucy, the move wasn’t simply about reducing maintenance. It was about finding a home that would continue to support their lifestyle for years to come.
The modern design, light-filled living areas, single-level layout and space to entertain family and friends, all played an important role in their decision.
The community’s new wellness facilities also gave them confidence that their lifestyle could continue to evolve without needing another move down the track.
Peace of Mind Comes from Making the Right Decision
Six months after moving into Griffith Hill, Peter reflects on the decision with confidence.
By taking the time to research their options and think carefully about their future needs, they found a home that offers both simplicity and security without sacrificing the things they enjoy.
For Peter, that’s what successful downsizing looks like. Choosing a lifestyle that gives you confidence in the years ahead, not settling for less.
