How Cathy simplified life and made more time for what matters

For Cathy and Dave Henderson, downsizing wasn’t just about moving to a smaller home. It was about:

Trading maintenance for meaning

Like many downsizers, Cathy found that maintaining a large property was taking up more and more of her time.

Hours spent mowing, gardening, and managing a rural property meant less time for family, work, and the things she truly enjoyed.

Today, that time has been given back. Instead of spending weekends on a ride-on mower, Cathy now works as a carer, a role she finds deeply rewarding.

“It’s such rewarding work and I love it,” Cathy says.

Life has also presented Cathy and Dave with significant family responsibilities over the years.

Supporting their son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren during challenging times has been a priority, and their move to a low-maintenance home has made it easier to be there when family needs them most.

Without the demands of a large property, they can focus their energy where it’s needed. “Living here makes life so much easier,” Cathy explains.

“I often think about how difficult it would be to manage everything if we were still living on our old property.”

For Cathy, one of the greatest benefits of downsizing has been the peace of mind. Her modern, low-maintenance home provides all the comfort she needs without the ongoing upkeep and expense that comes with a larger property.

“When I step outside my front door, there’s always someone to talk to or someone willing to join me for a walk,” she says.

Having neighbours nearby and a growing range of community facilities has added another layer of enjoyment to everyday life.
